Transcript [00:01] Thank you, Mr. President. My name is [00:03] Dimmitri Krupnikov and I'm the vice [00:05] president of the Latin Jewish community [00:07] and I'm honored to make the statement on [00:09] behalf of the World Jewish Congress. As [00:12] we stated in our previous review, Latvia [00:15] has made remarkable progress since [00:17] regaining independence after the [00:19] collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. [00:21] We're pleased to attest that the [00:23] progress has continued. At the time of [00:26] our previous review, the Latin Jewish [00:28] community was working closely with the [00:30] same and the government on Latia on the [00:32] law of goodwill reimbursement to the [00:34] Latin Jewish community. Adopted by the [00:37] same signed by the president of Latia in [00:40] early 2022. The law provides [00:42] reimbursement for nearly 300 properties [00:45] that could not be reclaimed after Latwe [00:47] regained independence because the [00:48] legitimate heirs to those property [00:50] perished in the Holocaust. Through a [00:53] 10-year payment program, the Latin [00:54] Jewish Community Rest Institution Fund [00:57] received support for community [00:58] initiatives and assistance to Holocaust [01:00] survivors in Latvia. The adoption of the [01:03] law and the strong majority it received [01:05] in its final reading reflects the [01:07] positive relationship between Latia and [01:09] his Jewish community. We also welcome [01:12] the attention given by the government of [01:14] Latia and relevant authorities to [01:16] combating anti-semitism and online hate [01:18] speech. Holocaust Remembrance Day is a [01:21] Latin calendar and every year the [01:23] leaders of Latia and joined the leaders [01:25] of the community commemorating those who [01:28] died in the tragedy always noting that [01:30] the Holocaust rob Latia of its vital and [01:33] vibrant part. On our agenda for the next [01:36] four years is signing a bilateral [01:38] agreement with between Latia and Israel [01:41] honoring dual citizenship per [01:43] permissions between the two countries.
