Transcript [00:00] So, I'm walking by the old city walls of [00:02] Jerusalem, and I happen to find this [00:05] this thorn. Check this out. Look at the [00:06] size of this thing. And I can't help but [00:08] remember the parable of the sewer. The [00:11] deceitfulness of riches, the worries, [00:14] the cares of this world choked out the [00:16] seed and it did not bear fruit. And you [00:19] know, we're about to celebrate [00:21] Roshashana, the Jewish New Year. We're [00:23] about to head into these 10 days of [00:26] reflection, of repentance. And I wonder [00:29] how many times these thorns in our [00:33] lives, [music] the things that choke out [00:35] the word that cause us to stay away from [00:37] the Lord that impede us from receiving [00:41] his call, that sound of repentance to go [00:43] back to him, to return. That's the call [00:45] that we hear. So don't let the word of [00:47] God be choked out by these thorns. [00:50] Remember, God [music] is calling you. [00:51] It's a call to repentance. It's a call [00:53] to return. He's not cruel. He doesn't [00:56] take delight in the death of the wicked. [00:57] He wants you to go back to the ancient [01:00] paths, the way of life. He's a good [01:02] father and he's waiting for you. So, [01:04] let's say goodbye to these thorns and [01:06] let's head into this new year following [01:08] hard after the Lord.
What thorn is holding you back? 🌿
By the walls of Jerusalem, a single thorn reminded us of Jesus' parable of the sower - how life's worries and distractions choke out God's word before it bears fruit.
This Rosh Hashanah, name your thorn. Then let it go. God isn't waiting to condemn you. He's a good Father waiting for you to return.
Step into this new year following hard after Him. ✨
