[02:44] Hi, I'm Robert Jeff and welcome again to [02:46] Pathway [music] to Victory. Think back [02:48] to the most beautiful wedding you ever [02:50] attended. The music, the flowers, the [02:53] joy on every face. [music] [02:55] Now imagine a celebration so glorious it [02:58] makes the grandest wedding on earth look [03:00] ordinary by comparison. That's exactly [03:03] what the [music] Bible promises in the [03:05] wedding feast of the lamb, a party [03:07] unlike anything this world has [music] [03:10] ever seen. My message is titled The [03:13] Coming King on today's [music] edition [03:16] of Pathway to Victory. [03:23] The Book of Revelation is filled with [03:25] fantastic imagery and vivid depictions [03:27] that many believers find intimidating. [03:30] But God's word was [music] never meant [03:31] to confuse or discourage you. In his [03:33] best-selling book, Final Conquest, Dr. [03:36] [music] Robert Jeff walks you through [03:37] Revelation verse by verse, explaining [03:40] its signs and symbols in plain terms [03:42] [music] you can understand. Request your [03:44] copy of Final Conquest when you sign up [03:46] to become a Pathway partner or when you [03:49] give a generous gift to support the [03:51] ministry of Pathway to Victory. [04:01] In January of 1961, [music] [04:05] a few days before he was inaugurated as [04:08] President of the United States, [04:11] President Elect John F. Kennedy invited [04:14] Billy Graham to join him in Florida for [04:17] a round of golf. On the way back from [04:20] the golf course, [04:22] President-elect Kennedy asked Billy [04:24] Graham this question. [04:27] Billy, do you believe that Jesus Christ [04:31] is coming back to Earth one day? [04:34] Dr. Graham said, "Yes, sir, I do." And [04:39] then the president-elect said, "Well, if [04:41] that's true, Billy, why do I hear so [04:45] little about it today?" [04:48] The fact is you don't hear much about [04:51] the return of Jesus Christ. It's a [04:54] subject not even addressed in many [04:55] pulpits across America today. But even [04:59] though it may not be talked about a lot, [05:02] the fact is certain. Jesus Christ is [05:06] returning to earth one day to reward the [05:09] righteous and to punish the unrighteous. [05:12] And it is our hope, the only hope that [05:15] we have. And it is that certain visible [05:19] literal return of Jesus Christ that we [05:22] have come to in our study of the book of [05:25] Revelation. If you have your Bibles, [05:27] turn to Revelation chapter 19 as we talk [05:30] about the coming king. It's hard to [05:34] believe we've been in this book of [05:35] Revelation for almost a year. And in a [05:39] very real sense, everything we have [05:41] studied this past year is simply a [05:43] prelude to what we're going to look at [05:46] today, history's most important event. [05:50] But before we get into the text itself, [05:52] let me just answer the question, why is [05:55] a literal second coming of Christ [05:58] important? And I want to mention four [06:01] reasons that Christ must return to [06:04] earth. First of all, Christ must return [06:08] to fulfill the promises made in the [06:11] Bible. [06:12] If Christ doesn't return, then it means [06:15] hundreds and hundreds of prophecies will [06:17] be left unfulfilled and therefore the [06:20] Bible is unreliable. [06:22] But remember, in the Old Testament [06:24] itself, there were 1,800 references not [06:28] to the first coming, but to the second [06:30] coming of Christ. Did you know that? [06:32] 1,800. In fact, for every one prophecy [06:36] in the Old Testament about the first [06:38] coming of Christ to Bethlehem, for every [06:41] one prophecy about that, there are eight [06:43] prophecies about the second coming of [06:46] Christ. In the 260 chapters of the New [06:49] Testament, there are over 300 references [06:53] to the return of Jesus Christ. The [06:56] second coming is not just incidental. [07:00] It's essential. It is the theme of the [07:03] entire Bible, the Old and the New [07:06] Testaments. Secondly, Christ must return [07:09] to judge unbelievers for sin. If Jesus [07:13] Christ doesn't return, sin and [07:16] wickedness will only intensify in the [07:19] world today. Thirdly, Christ must return [07:22] to depose Satan from his earthly [07:25] dominion. Remember, Satan is the great [07:29] usurper. He has temporarily stolen this [07:33] world which belongs to God. And if [07:36] Christ doesn't come back to reclaim this [07:38] earth, then Satan has won. Do you think [07:41] God's going to allow Satan to do that? [07:43] Not on your life. He must return to [07:46] depose Satan from his earthly dominion. [07:49] And finally, Christ must return to [07:52] establish his kingdom on the earth. The [07:56] promise over and over again is that the [07:58] son of God is returning to rule this [08:02] earth in perfect justice and perfect [08:04] righteousness. Don't we look forward to [08:07] that day when this earth will finally be [08:09] what God intended it to be? That period [08:12] of Christ's rule on the earth is the [08:14] period of the millennium that we will [08:16] look at beginning next time. That's why [08:20] Christ must return to earth. Now when we [08:23] get to chapter 19, this chapter is [08:26] divided into two distinct parts. In [08:29] verses 1 and 10, the rejoicing of God's [08:32] people over the fall of Babylon, the [08:36] empire of the Antichrist. And in verses [08:38] 11 to 21, the theme is the triumphant [08:42] return of the king. Let's look at the [08:45] first 10 verses first in which the [08:47] saints are rejoicing over the fall of [08:51] Babylon. Remember last time we saw how [08:54] Babylon, the empire of the Antichrist, [08:58] is destroyed by God. Both the city, the [09:01] capital of the empire, as well as the [09:04] religious and economic aspect of that uh [09:07] rebellious uh empire of the antichrist. [09:11] The silence of the ruined Babylon gives [09:14] way to the praise in heaven by the [09:17] saints over the destruction of Babylon. [09:21] And that praise comes in the form of [09:23] four hallelujah. [09:25] You know in the book of revelation the [09:27] term hallelujah is used four times and [09:31] it all occurs in this chapter chapter 19 [09:34] of revelation. Now the word hallelujah [09:37] we say it a lot without knowing what it [09:39] means. It it's for praise be to God. And [09:44] notice the four hallelujah in these [09:47] opening verses. Why are the people in [09:49] heaven so excited when Babylon is [09:52] destroyed? First of all, verses 1 and [09:54] two, hallelujah, for the great harlot is [09:58] fallen. After these things, I heard [10:01] something like a loud voice of a great [10:02] multitude in heaven, saying, [10:04] "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and [10:07] power belong to our God because his [10:10] judgments are true and righteous. For he [10:12] has judged the great harlot who was [10:15] corrupting the earth." [10:17] That great harlot, remember, is the [10:19] false church during the tribulation. [10:22] That for the first three and a half [10:23] years will assist Antichrist in his rise [10:26] to power. But halfway through that [10:29] tribulation, uh the antichrist and the [10:31] 10 kings who rule with him will decide [10:34] they don't need that harlot any longer [10:36] and they themselves destroy her. That's [10:39] exactly what is going to happen in the [10:42] last days when the final false church, [10:45] the great harlot of Babylon is [10:47] destroyed. Secondly, there's a [10:49] hallelujah for the great city is [10:51] consumed. Verse three, when Babylon is [10:54] destroyed, they set in heaven, [10:57] hallelujah, praise be to God, for her [10:59] smoke rises up forever and ever. [11:03] You know, I've been doing this a long [11:05] time, preaching on radio, television, [11:07] and in churches that hold thousands of [11:09] people. But I'll tell you what still [11:11] gets me. Knowing that right now, someone [11:14] is watching this on a phone or a laptop [11:16] or a TV screen somewhere and God is [11:19] using it to change their life. That's [11:22] why I'm pausing the sermon for just a [11:24] moment to ask you to do three things. [11:26] First, subscribe so that we can stay [11:29] connected. Second, click the bell so [11:31] that you never miss what God may have [11:33] for you in the next message. And [11:35] finally, find the link in the program [11:38] notes. There's a free resource there. No [11:40] donation needed, just waiting for you. I [11:44] don't take lightly that you gave us a [11:45] few minutes of your day. Now, let's get [11:48] back to today's message. [11:51] That city continues to smolder after it [11:54] is destroyed, symbolizing that its [11:57] desolation is complete. But it her [12:00] punishment is forever and ever. This is [12:03] just a hint of what we're going to see [12:04] in a few moments about the lake of fire, [12:08] the eternal torment of those who die [12:11] apart from Jesus Christ. The third, [12:14] hallelujah. Hallelujah. For God has [12:17] vanquished evil. He has vanquished evil [12:20] forever and ever. We find that in verse [12:23] four. and the 24 elders and the living [12:26] creatures fell down and worshiped God [12:28] saying, "Amen. Hallelujah." And finally, [12:32] hallelujah for the Lord God Almighty [12:35] reigns. [12:36] That phrase almighty is the Greek word [12:40] panto crater. It literally means the God [12:43] who controls all things. Even in the [12:48] midst of the chaos of the tribulation, [12:51] we're reminded that God is in control of [12:54] everything that is happening. Don't we [12:57] need to be reminded of that today? [13:00] Regardless of the racial unrest, the [13:02] pandemic, the economic uncertainty, [13:06] regardless of the chaos in this world in [13:08] general or in your world specifically [13:11] right now, no matter what happens, don't [13:13] forget the Lord God Almighty reigns. [13:16] Nothing that's happening in your life [13:18] this week is taking God by surprise. He [13:23] uses all of it to accomplish his purpose [13:26] in your life. That's why Paul could say [13:28] with confidence, "And we know, not we [13:31] hope or wish, but we know that God [13:34] causes all things to work together for [13:37] good to those who love him and to those [13:40] called according to his purpose." [13:42] Now, this four hallelujah chorus gives [13:46] way to the final hymn in the book of [13:49] Revelation. We've looked at a number of [13:51] hymns in the book of Revelation. Here's [13:53] the final one. It's a hymn, a song for [13:56] the lamb and his bride. Look at verse [13:58] seven. Let us rejoice and be glad and [14:02] give the glory to him. four. Why the [14:06] marriage of the lamb has come and his [14:10] bride has made herself ready. [14:13] The reason we can praise God at this [14:15] point in the [14:18] uh tribulation is because a marriage has [14:22] already taken place. That phrase has [14:24] come. It denotes an action that has [14:26] already been completed. We can rejoice [14:29] because a wedding has already taken [14:31] place. You say wedding? Was there a [14:33] wedding that I wasn't invited to? What [14:35] do you mean a wedding has taken place? [14:37] Who is this wedding for? Well, it's the [14:40] marriage of the lamb. And we know who [14:43] the lamb is. We've seen it over and over [14:44] in Revelation. The lamb is Jesus Christ. [14:47] Behold the lamb of God. John the Baptist [14:50] said, who takes away the sin of the [14:51] world. The lamb, Christ has gotten [14:55] married. Well, who did he get married [14:57] to? Well, his bride. Well, who is the [15:00] bride? Some people say, "Well, it's the [15:02] Old Testament saints." No, they're not [15:04] the bride of Christ. Some people say, [15:06] "Well, it's those who are alive in the [15:08] days of Jesus, like John the Baptist and [15:11] uh Anna and Simeon." No, they're not the [15:14] bride. Some people say it must be the [15:16] tribulation martyrs, those who gave [15:18] their life during the tribulation for [15:20] Christ. They were saved and martyed [15:22] during the tribulation. No, they're not [15:24] the bride. The bride of Jesus Christ is [15:29] you and me, the church of Jesus Christ. [15:34] Those who were saved in that unique [15:36] period of history between Pentecost and [15:39] the rapture of the church, that is the [15:42] bride of Christ. So when did the wedding [15:45] take place? How does it take place? [15:47] How's it already happened at this point? [15:50] None of this will make sense to you [15:52] unless you understand the three phases [15:55] of a Jewish wedding. And there's going [15:58] to be an aha moment for you in just a [16:00] moment as it all begins to make sense to [16:02] you. In a Jewish wedding, there were [16:05] three phases to that wedding. First of [16:07] all, phase one, a marriage contract was [16:10] drawn up and a dowy was paid. When two [16:15] sets of parents decided they wanted [16:17] their children to get married, they [16:19] entered into a contract while the kids [16:22] were just kids. And at that point, a [16:26] dowy was paid by the the the father of [16:29] the bride. Uh that was stage one. A [16:33] contract was entered into and a dowy was [16:36] paid. Stage two. Phase two. Then the [16:40] marriage ceremony took place in the [16:42] groom's house. Once the children were of [16:45] suitable age to marry, the groom to be [16:49] and some of his friends would go to his [16:52] prospective wife's house unexpectedly [16:55] and they would take the bride to be with [16:58] them back to the groom's home and there [17:02] the marriage would take place and be [17:04] consummated. That was phase two. And [17:07] then phase three after the ceremony the [17:11] wedding feast was celebrated. There was [17:13] a great party, not a two-hour dinner, [17:16] but a multi-day affair in which people [17:19] were invited to come and celebrate the [17:22] marriage of the groom and his bride. [17:25] Now, do you see the picture here of our [17:28] relationship to Christ? Phase one, the [17:31] marriage contract was entered into. When [17:34] did God decide that you and I were going [17:37] to become the bride of Christ? before [17:40] the foundation of the world that was [17:42] determined. That contract was entered [17:44] into. God chose you. He chose me not [17:49] because of anything we did. We weren't [17:51] even born yet. But it was all because of [17:54] his grace and his plan. We were chosen [17:57] before the foundation of the world. But [17:59] the dowy was paid not by the bride's [18:04] father but by the groom himself, Jesus [18:07] Christ. When he shed his blood on [18:09] Calvary for our sins, that was the [18:12] payment that was made to secure us as [18:15] his bride. That was when the dowy was [18:18] paid. Step two, when is it that the [18:21] groom is going to come and snatch us [18:24] away unexpectedly to be with him? That's [18:26] the rapture of the church. We don't know [18:28] when it's going to happen. It could [18:30] happen today. But unexpectedly, the Lord [18:33] will come not to come down to earth, but [18:36] to take us up to be with him in the [18:39] father's house. That is the rapture of [18:42] the church that is yet to come. And [18:45] after that rapture at the church of the [18:47] church at a future day will be the great [18:49] wedding feast after the marriage is [18:52] consummated. We are united with Christ [18:55] at the rapture. And then at a time to be [18:59] designated seven years later, he and his [19:03] bride, Jesus, and the church will return [19:05] to earth for the great marriage [19:08] ceremony, the wedding supper of the [19:11] lamb. Notice verse 8. And it was given [19:15] to her, that is the bride, to clothe [19:18] herself in fine linen, bright and clean. [19:21] for the fine linen is the righteous acts [19:24] of the saints. The bride is getting [19:27] ready during the tribulation. We, the [19:30] bride, are in heaven with the groom. [19:32] We're getting ready to come back to [19:33] earth for this great celebration, the [19:36] marriage feast of the lamb. And how are [19:39] we going to clothe ourselves? With [19:42] bright linen. Uh that is, if you don't [19:45] know what that is, it is the righteous [19:47] acts of the saints. [19:50] You know, a lot of people get confused [19:52] about this. They think that our works, [19:56] our righteous acts don't ma matter to [19:58] God. After all, we're saved by grace, [20:00] not by works. Right? It's true. Our good [20:03] works are meaningless. They are [20:05] worthless to God before we are saved. We [20:08] can never earn God's forgiveness. It is [20:11] a gift of God. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, [20:15] "For by grace you have been saved [20:17] through faith, and that not of [20:18] yourselves. It is a gift of God, not of [20:20] works, lest any man should boast. Works [20:24] have nothing to do with securing our [20:26] salvation. But after we are saved, our [20:29] good works mean a great deal to God. [20:31] That's why verse 10 of Ephesians 10 [20:33] says, "Although we are not saved by [20:35] works, for we are his workmanship, [20:38] created by Christ Jesus for good works, [20:42] which God determined we should walk in." [20:45] Do you see that? We're not saved by good [20:47] works, but we are saved for good works. [20:51] God does care how you and I live after [20:53] we are saved. And the good things we do [20:56] for God, our obedience to God, it is [21:00] like a white garment. We put on the [21:02] righteous acts of the saints. And so [21:05] when the church returns, the church will [21:07] return clothed in her righteous acts. [21:10] Dr. Chrisell made this point. He said, [21:13] "In John's day, you had two garments [21:16] that you wore. You wore the tunic, which [21:20] was the undergarment, if you will. It's [21:23] basic. Everybody had a tunic, but you [21:27] didn't walk around in your underwear. [21:28] There was an outer garment, the toga. [21:31] People saw the outer garment." He said, [21:34] "In the same way, when we trust in [21:36] Christ as our savior, we all receive the [21:38] same tunic, the undergarment of [21:41] righteousness." That means when God [21:43] looks at us after we've trusted in [21:45] Christ, he doesn't see our unholiness. [21:48] He sees the righteousness of his son, [21:50] Jesus. That's what you call imputed [21:52] righteousness. But we clothe ourselves [21:56] in our toga, in the outward [21:58] righteousness, in the righteous acts [22:01] that we perform. And so the church is [22:05] adorning herself with those righteous [22:07] acts to get ready for the wedding feast [22:10] of the lamb. Now look at this. A [22:12] blessing for the wedding guests. This is [22:14] so interesting. Verse 9. Then John said [22:17] to me, write this. Write this down. [22:20] Blessed, literally happy are those who [22:24] are invited to the marriage supper of [22:26] the lamb. It is a happy thing if you [22:30] receive an invitation to the wedding [22:34] feast of the lamb. Now, who gets invited [22:38] to a wedding feast? Does the bride get [22:40] an invitation? [22:41] Well, no. The bride doesn't get invited [22:44] to her own wedding. The groom doesn't [22:46] get invited to his own wedding. This is [22:49] for guests of the bride and groom. And [22:52] what the angel is saying to John is, [22:55] "How happy are those who get invited to [22:59] the wedding supper of the lamb." Just [23:02] imagine for a moment that you go out to [23:05] retrieve your mail and when you get the [23:07] mail, you notice a slightly oversized [23:09] envelope, beautifully decorated. It's [23:13] cream colored. Uh it's embossed. [23:17] And you notice immediately the return [23:19] address, [23:21] 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC. [23:27] Immediately you open that envelope to [23:30] see what it is. And in beautiful [23:32] calligraphy, there is on a card written, [23:34] "The president of the United States and [23:37] first lady invite you to a state dinner [23:41] at the White House honoring Queen [23:44] Elizabeth II." [23:47] Now, how would you feel about receiving [23:49] that invitation? Would you throw it down [23:51] in disgust and say, "Well, if it's not [23:53] going to be to honor me, I'm not going [23:55] to that dinner. Why would I go to a [23:58] dinner for the queen? I want to go if [24:00] it's written for me, but not for the [24:02] queen." No, you wouldn't do that. You [24:04] would be honored that the president and [24:06] first lady thought enough of you to [24:09] invite you to come and honor Queen [24:12] Elizabeth II. Now, as wonderful as an [24:16] occasion is like that, and trust me, [24:19] dinners at the White House are something [24:21] to behold, they are elegance defined, [24:25] a dinner at the White House is like [24:28] eating a hot dog at a picnic table [24:31] compared to what the wedding feast of [24:33] the lamb is going to be like. Nobody has [24:36] ever experienced anything like that. [24:38] Now, who's going to be the honored [24:40] guest? The groom, Jesus Christ. And you [24:43] and I, the church, we're the ones who [24:45] are being honored at that wedding feast. [24:47] Well, who is it that are going to be the [24:49] guest? Well, you're going to have the [24:50] Old Testament saints there. David, [24:53] Solomon, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, [24:56] Ruth, [24:58] Solomon, they're all going to be invited [25:00] to be there. It's going to be the Old [25:02] Testament saints. It's going to be the [25:04] New Testament uh uh characters who died [25:08] before Pentecost. John the Baptist will [25:11] be there. [25:12] Anna and Simeon uh who prophesied about [25:15] Christ will be there. The tribulation [25:18] martyrs will be there as well. Those who [25:20] were saved after Pentecost and after the [25:23] rapture, people who gave their life for [25:25] Christ, they will be there. And then you [25:28] and I will be there. They're not going [25:30] to feel like they were secondass [25:31] citizens because they're not the [25:33] honores. They're going to be absolutely [25:35] thrilled to be at that wedding supper of [25:39] the lamb. You know, I've often tried to [25:41] picture what that wedding supper would [25:43] be like. Just imagine what it would be [25:46] like in a banquet hall surrounded by the [25:49] saints of all of the ages. Just imagine [25:52] what it would be like for you to be [25:54] there with your parents [music] and your [25:56] grandparents and anybody else who was [25:58] instrumental in helping you know Christ [26:01] as savior. Imagine all the chatter that [26:04] will go on through that dinner as people [26:06] share with one another their story of [26:09] how they came to faith in Christ. [26:17] I for one am eagerly looking forward to [26:19] the wedding [music] feast of the lamb, [26:21] the greatest party the world will ever [26:24] see. Now, before we conclude our time [26:27] together today, let me express my [26:29] heartfelt gratitude to everyone who [26:31] supports Pathway to Victory. This year, [26:34] we're celebrating 30 years of [music] [26:36] ministry. Through five presidential [26:39] administrations, through crises and [26:41] cultural upheaval, the [music] broadcast [26:43] has continued with the same gospel [26:46] message and the same commitment to [26:48] scripture. [music] [26:49] That's the kind of faithfulness your [26:51] gift makes possible and it's what will [26:53] carry this truth to the next generation. [26:56] Thank you for helping us pierce the [26:58] darkness with the light of God's word. [27:01] Now, please stay right there. I'll be [27:02] back [music] with more Pathway to [27:04] Victory in just a moment. Our world is [27:07] growing darker by the day. But the book [27:10] of Revelation teaches that one day soon [27:12] the darkness will pass and our [27:14] long-awaited King [music] of Kings and [27:16] Lord of Lords will return and make his [27:18] final conquest. The book of Revelation [27:21] isn't just the unveiling of future [27:23] events. It's the unveiling of a person, [27:27] Jesus Christ. And in Final Conquest, my [27:30] [music] exclusive commentary on [27:32] Revelation, you'll discover the great [27:34] hope we have in the triumphant return of [27:37] our Lord Jesus Christ. [27:40] Request your copy of Final Conquest when [27:42] you give a generous gift to support the [27:44] ministry of Pathway to Victory or when [27:47] you become a Pathway Partner. And when [27:49] your ministry gift is $125 or more, [27:52] we'll also send you Dr. Jefferson's [27:54] book, Mysteries of the End Times, a [27:57] clear guide to your questions about the [27:59] rapture, the tribulation, and the return [28:01] of Christ, along with the complete final [28:04] conquest teaching series on DVD video [28:06] and MP3 format audio disc. [28:09] >> And these line up exactly with the [28:11] [music] seven sealed judgments we see in [28:14] Revelation chap 6. In light of current [28:17] events and with the return of Christ [28:19] [music] so clearly on the horizon, [28:21] sharing the gospel through Pathway to [28:23] Victory has never been more important or [28:25] more urgent. So, [music] thank you for [28:27] supporting Pathway to Victory as [28:29] together we pierce the darkness of our [28:31] day with the light of God's word. [28:37] You and I, the church, [music] [28:38] are the bride of Christ, chosen before [28:41] the foundation of the world and [28:43] purchased [music] at the cross. The [28:45] contract is settled, the dowy is paid, [28:48] but the celebration is [music] still [28:50] ahead of us. And next time, we'll step [28:53] into the wedding feast itself [music] [28:55] and witness the moment our king returns [28:58] in triumph. Stay tuned for [music] a [29:00] preview of what's coming up next in our [29:01] series, Final Conquest. [29:05] Jesus Christ came that first time to be [29:08] our savior, to offer us a pardon from [29:11] our sins, a stay of execution, if you [29:13] will, [music] if we'll accept his [29:15] forgiveness. He came the first time to [29:17] be our savior. But if we leave this [29:22] world without receiving that pardon from [29:24] sin, we will face him one day as our [29:27] [music] judge. Set your DVR and join us [29:30] next time for part two of the message, [29:32] The Coming King, here on Pathway to [29:35] Victory.
