Transcript [00:00] The Abraham Accords are being tested. [00:02] Here's one big trend from the Middle [00:04] East that you need to know about. [00:08] The Abraham Accords changed the Middle [00:10] East by establishing formal diplomatic [00:12] relations between Israel and several [00:15] Arab countries. While regional tensions [00:17] in the Middle East and North Africa [00:19] region remain high, the Abraham Accords [00:21] have endured. That tells us something [00:23] important. These relationships have [00:26] become more resilient than many [00:27] expected. I'm Anne Drezen, vice [00:30] president of AJC's Center for a New [00:32] Middle East. Despite the challenges, the [00:35] Abraham Accords and Israel's peace [00:36] treaties with Jordan and Egypt have [00:38] endured. Countries that have established [00:40] relations with Israel still see value in [00:43] economic ties, practical cooperation, [00:46] and keeping communication channels open. [00:49] And AJ is working to sustain and deepen [00:51] those connections. And we don't give up [00:53] when times get tough because [00:55] normalization isn't just about [00:57] agreements between governments. It's [00:59] about relationships between people, [01:01] institutions, and leaders. These [01:04] relationships are being tested, but [01:05] they're still standing, and that matters [01:07] for the future of the region. [01:11] 5 years ago, AJC established a physical [01:14] presence in Abu Dhabi, the Sydney [01:16] Learner Center for Arab Jewish [01:18] Understanding. Today, we continue to [01:20] build trusted relationships with leaders [01:22] across the region. Through our bridge [01:25] program, AJC brings Arab and Israeli [01:27] business leaders to the United States to [01:30] build relationships, exchange [01:31] perspectives, and identify opportunities [01:34] for regional collaboration. Through the [01:36] Sachs Fellowship, AJC's Center for a New [01:39] Middle East convenes emerging leaders [01:41] from Israel and Morocco to develop the [01:44] relationships and understanding that can [01:46] shape the next generation of [01:47] Arab-Israeli engagement. That matters [01:50] because when regional tensions are high, [01:52] personal relationships can keep the door [01:54] open. and AJC uses its trusted [01:57] relationships to continue advocating for [02:00] regional normalization and expanding the [02:02] circle of peace through conversation and [02:04] collaboration. Through our physical [02:06] presence in the region and investing in [02:08] these relationships, AJC helps ensure [02:11] the progress of the Abraham Accords [02:13] doesn't get lost, even during [02:15] challenging times.
The Abraham Accords transformed the Middle East by establishing diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab countries. Today, regional tensions are testing those relationships—but connections between leaders, businesses, and communities continue to matter.
Anne Dreazen, Vice President of AJC’s Center for a New Middle East, explains why the Accords’ resilience matters and how AJC is working to sustain and deepen regional ties through its presence in Abu Dhabi, the BRIDGE program, and the Sachs Fellowship.
By bringing Arab and Israeli leaders together, AJC helps build relationships, expand opportunities for cooperation, and keep the door open to regional normalization—even in challenging times.
