Transcript [00:00] Dir Karp was at Kibutraim with his [00:03] partner Stav Kimri and his two children [00:06] 10-year-old Daria and 8-year-old Levi. [00:09] On the morning of October 7th, they [00:11] entered their safe room. At around 8:20, [00:15] terrorists broke into the house. They [00:18] murdered Diran Stav while the children [00:20] hid under a blanket. After the terrorist [00:23] left, 10-year-old Daria picked up her [00:25] father's phone and sent a message to her [00:28] mother who was in Tel Aviv. Mom, it is [00:31] Daria. Dad was murdered. [00:34] Immediately called her daughter. This is [00:36] the call. [00:44] foreign. [01:05] I don't. [01:09] At around 11:30, a family friend from [01:12] the kibuts managed to reach the [01:14] children. He wanted to take them to his [01:17] family, but terrorists were still moving [01:20] through the kibuts, so he stayed with [01:22] them for hours, Darian Lavie remained [01:25] inside the house beside the bodies of [01:27] their father and staff. Only at around [01:29] 7:30 that evening, their neighbor [01:32] managed to get them out through a window [01:34] and take them to his home. Dar and Lvie [01:37] were reunited with their mother the [01:40] following day. [01:52] Schlomaron was 85 years old and one of [01:55] the founders of Kibut's Nakal. On the [01:58] morning of October 7th, his wife, two [02:01] daughters, and grandson were with him [02:03] when they realized the terrorist had [02:05] entered the kibuts. Schlommo told his [02:08] family to hide inside the safe room. But [02:10] he didn't go in with them. Instead, [02:13] unarmed, he sat along in a chair in the [02:16] living room. His plan was simple. If the [02:19] terrorist enter and saw one elderly man [02:22] living alone, perhaps they would kill [02:24] him and live without searching the rest [02:26] of the house. The terrorist came inside. [02:29] They saw Schlommo sitting alone and shot [02:31] him. Other attackers later entered the [02:34] home, saw his body and moved on without [02:38] discovering the family inside nearby. [02:41] Schlommo was killed. His wife, [02:43] daughters, and grandson survived. [02:46] The Swissa family lived in Stot. On the [02:49] morning of October 7th, as rockets were [02:51] being fired at the city, Oda and Dov [02:54] Swissa decided to live with their two [02:57] young daughters, Romy and Leah. They had [02:59] barely started driving when a van [03:01] carrying terrorist passed their car and [03:04] opened fire. Dv grabbed Romy and tried [03:07] to run with her, but the terrorist shot [03:10] him at close range. He fell to the [03:12] ground badly wounded while Romy somehow [03:15] remained unharmed. Oda managed to get [03:18] both girls back into the family car. A [03:21] police officer then asked a civilian [03:23] Amir Abu Sabira to help drive Oda and [03:27] the girls towards the police station. [03:30] They followed the officer but when they [03:32] reached the area they drove straight [03:35] into another terrorist ambush. The [03:37] terrorist opened fire on the vehicle. [03:40] Oda Amir and the police officer was shot [03:43] and killed. Romy and Leah were still [03:45] sitting in the back seat, hiding under a [03:48] blanket. For about half an hour, the two [03:50] little girls remained alone inside the [03:52] car while a battle raged around them. [03:55] They cried for help, but no one could [03:58] hear them over the gunfire. Eventually, [04:00] police officer Aron Amar noticed a small [04:03] head appearing through the rear window. [04:05] He ran towards the car under fire. When [04:08] he reached the girls, Ommy looked at him [04:10] and asked, "Attach Israel, are you with [04:13] Israel?" She was trying to understand [04:16] whether the man coming towards her was [04:18] there to save her or whether he was one [04:21] of the terrorists. [04:43] The officer told the girls to keep their [04:45] heads down and returned to the fighting. [04:48] A short time later, Ya Vinam, a member [04:50] of the local security team, reached the [04:53] car while grenades were being thrown [04:55] nearby. He picked up Leah, took Romy by [04:58] the hand, and ran with the both girls [05:00] away from the police station. Romy and [05:02] Leah survived. Their parents did not. [05:05] And that simple question, Atach Israel, [05:08] are you with Israel? Became a symbol of [05:10] the fear experienced by children that [05:13] morning and of the hope that someone [05:15] would eventually come to save them. [05:19] Rael and Davidid lived in the city of [05:21] Afakim. On the morning of October 7th, [05:24] they repeatedly ran from their home to [05:26] the nearby public shelter as rockets [05:29] were fired at the city. After one of the [05:31] alarms, they returned home and [05:33] discovered that five terrorists had [05:36] entered through a window. The terrorists [05:38] took the couple hostage and forced them [05:40] upstairs. One of the officers at the [05:43] scene was Ael and David's son, Evatar, [05:46] who helped the forces understand the [05:48] layout of his parents' home. Rael [05:50] quickly realized that if she wanted to [05:52] survive, she had to keep the terrorist [05:55] calm and busy as much time as possible. [05:58] Later, she offered the terrorist tea, [06:00] coffee, and cookies. One of the [06:02] terrorist hit Rael. Still, Rael [06:04] continued talking to him. She served [06:07] them food, treated one of the terrorists [06:09] after he was wounded, and even sang [06:11] Israeli songs with them. Rael and [06:13] Davidid remained hostage for hours. [06:16] Finally, after about 17 hours, special [06:19] police forces stormed the house, killed [06:22] the remaining terrorists, and rescued [06:24] the couple alive. [06:36] Aza, Nadav, and Hen and their four [06:38] children, Yam, Aam, Tal, and Gal. When [06:42] the sirens began, the six of them [06:44] entered the safe room and tried to hide [06:47] wherever they could, some under the bed [06:49] and other behind a wardrobe. At around [06:51] 10:00 a.m., terrorists blew open the [06:54] back entrance of the house and stormed [06:57] the safe room. Nadavu tried to stop them [07:00] and was shot in the chest at point blank [07:02] range. The terrorists then forced Hen [07:05] and the children out of the house, [07:07] making them pass over Nadav's body. [07:10] Their eldest daughter, 20-year-old Yam, [07:12] repeatedly lost consciousness. Hen tried [07:16] desperately to revive her while also [07:18] trying to protect her other three [07:20] children outside. When Hen returned to [07:22] Yam a few minutes later, she found that [07:25] the terrorist had shot her in the face. [07:27] Ken, 17-year-old Agam, 11year-old Gal, [07:31] and 9-year-old Tal were then forced into [07:34] the family car and kidnapped to Gaza. On [07:37] the way, the terrorists stopped near the [07:39] fence and loaded bodies into the [07:42] vehicle. Aam told her younger brother, [07:44] "Don't look." The four were held hostage [07:47] for 51 days before being released. [07:52] Rudis Karisvki lived in Mushave near the [07:55] Gaza border. When the rockets attack [07:57] began on the morning of October 7th, his [08:00] two daughters called him because they [08:02] were afraid to stay alone in apartments [08:04] without safe rooms. Woody immediately [08:07] got into his car and went to bring them [08:10] home. After dropping off one of his [08:12] daughters, he set out again to pick up [08:14] his younger daughter. At around 7:00 [08:17] a.m., she spoke to him on the phone. [08:28] 7 minutes later, as Rudy approached with [08:31] Junction, two terrorists appeared beside [08:33] the road and opened fire on his car. [08:36] Woody lost control of the vehicle and [08:38] crashed into a ditch. He was killed on [08:40] the spot. His dash cam recorded his [08:44] final moments. [08:51] The Kadam Simmontov family lived in [08:53] Kibuts near Oz. Tamar and Yonathan were [08:55] at home with their three children, [08:58] 5-year-old twins, Shahar and Rabbel and [09:00] their 2-year-old son, Omar. On the [09:03] morning of October 7th, the family hid [09:05] inside their safe room. At 9:48 a.m., [09:08] Tamar sent a message saying that she had [09:11] been wounded. It was the last message [09:13] anyone received from the family. Tamar, [09:16] Yonathan, Shaharel, and 2-year-old Omar [09:20] were all murdered inside their home. [09:24] The Mar family lived in Kibuts near Oz. [09:26] When the attack began on the morning of [09:28] October 7th, Yon Mar was inside the safe [09:32] room with his wife Lee and three of [09:34] their daughters. Their oldest daughter, [09:36] Ellen, was sleeping at her grandmother's [09:39] house elsewhere in the kibuts. As [09:41] messages began appearing on the kibut's [09:43] WhatsApp group, saying that terrorists [09:45] were entering homes, Yon took his gun [09:48] and left the safe room. He looked [09:51] through a window and saw around 15 [09:53] terrorists outside his house. Instead of [09:56] opening fire immediately, he waited for [09:58] them to come closer. When one terrorist [10:01] tried to climb through a window, Iron [10:03] shot him. The terrorist responded by [10:06] firing into the house and throwing [10:08] grenades through the windows. Another [10:11] terrorist managed to enter the house and [10:13] Yon shot him too. For about an hour and [10:16] a half, Yon fought the terrorist from [10:18] inside his home while Lee and the girls [10:21] remained inside the safe room listening [10:24] to the gunfire and explosions. At one [10:27] point, Lee messaged him, "I love you. [10:30] Don't leave us." Yon replied with a kiss [10:32] emoji. A few minutes earlier, he had [10:34] written to her, "I have to fight until I [10:36] run out of bullets." Eventually, the [10:39] terrorist began setting the house on [10:41] fire. Yon returned to the safe room. [10:44] They placed a tower under the door and [10:46] even urinate on it to try to stop the [10:49] smoke from entering. As the door became [10:51] hotter and the room filled with smoke, [10:53] they finally decided they had no choice [10:56] but to escape through the safe room [10:58] window. Yon climbed out first to check [11:01] whether the area was clear and then Lee [11:03] helped the girls out behind him. Almost [11:06] immediately, they encountered Israeli [11:08] border police officers. The officer saw [11:11] Yon carrying a weapon and for a moment [11:13] suspected that he was a terrorist. Iron [11:16] raised his hands and shouted Israel. He [11:19] shouted, "That's my husband." The [11:21] officers realized who he was and lowered [11:24] their weapons. But Yon's day was not [11:27] over. After making sure the two officers [11:30] stayed with his family, he joined the [11:32] rescue force and led them from house to [11:35] house across near Oz, helping them [11:38] locate and rescue other families. He [11:40] continued with them until late that [11:43] night. Yon Lee and their daughters [11:46] survived October 7th. [11:49] Amit man was a 22year-old paramedic in [11:52] Kibutzbury. When the attack began, she [11:54] went to the kibuts clinic to treat the [11:56] wounded. Even though terrorists were [11:58] already moving through the community, [12:00] wounded residents continue arriving and [12:03] for hours Amit treated them while [12:06] repeatedly calling for help. Those calls [12:09] were recorded. [12:45] As the hours passed, the terrorists [12:47] moved closer to the clinic. Eventually, [12:49] they broke inside. Amit was murdered [12:52] together with Dr. Danielle Levy, Gil [12:55] Buun, Etan Hadad, and Shah Seah. Two [12:58] other people inside the clinic survived. [13:00] In her final hours, Amit continued [13:03] trying to save the wounded. Before she [13:05] was killed, she asked her family to pray [13:07] for her and send them an audio recording [13:10] from her final moments. [13:27] The Idan family lived in Kibutkar Aza. [13:30] When the sirens began, Sadar took their [13:33] three children into the safe room. Her [13:35] husband Bi went outside with his camera. [13:39] He was a photographer for one of [13:40] Israel's major newspapers. And even in [13:43] those first chaotic minutes, he began [13:46] documenting what was happening. He [13:48] managed to photograph the terrorist [13:50] arriving on paragliders. Then he ran [13:53] back home. By the time he returned, [13:55] Smadar had already been murdered. The [13:58] terrorist had shot her through a window [14:00] in front of the children. Roy tried to [14:03] get the children out of the house. He [14:05] did not make it. A terrorist dressed in [14:08] an IDF uniform shot him and killed him. [14:11] Their two older children, 9-year-old [14:13] Mika and 6-year-old Amalia, ran back [14:16] into the house. Their little sister, [14:18] three-year-old Aigal, had been in her [14:21] father's arm when he was shot. She fell [14:24] to the ground. And then this [14:26] three-year-old girl began running alone [14:29] between the houses, knocking on doors, [14:31] looking for someone she knew. [14:33] Eventually, she reached the home of one [14:35] of her friends from kindergarten, Ura [14:38] Bord. Back inside the home, Mik picked [14:41] up the phone and called the police. It [14:43] was 6:50 in the morning when even the [14:46] police still did not fully understand [14:48] what was happening in southern Israel. [14:50] This is that phone call. [15:37] After the call, and hid inside a closet, [15:40] they stayed there for another 12 hours [15:44] alone until they were finally rescued. [15:46] Aigal meanwhile was hiding in a safe [15:49] room with a Bodor family. When the [15:52] terrorists entered that house too, they [15:54] kidnapped Hagar Bodor, their three [15:57] children and a Vikail and took all of [15:59] them into Gaza. Hagar later said that [16:02] when they arrived, they were met by [16:04] large crowds cheering and celebrating in [16:07] a state of Euphoria. The terrorist beat [16:10] her and displayed the children as if [16:13] they were trophies. In captivity, Hagar [16:16] and the children were kept hungry. They [16:18] were given only one bit of bread a day [16:20] while their captures prepared meals for [16:23] themselves in front of them. For 50 [16:25] days, Aigal was held in Gaza. She was 3 [16:28] years old. Her mother was dead, her [16:31] father was dead, and her brother and [16:32] sister had no idea if she was still [16:35] alive. Then after 50 days, Hagar and the [16:38] children were released. Aigal was [16:41] finally reunion with Mikel and Damalia. [16:44] Today they live with their aunt. [16:48] Niron was 85 years old and lived in [16:51] Kibutskar Aza with her caregiver Angie [16:54] Aguri, a 32year-old woman from the [16:57] Philippines. When the attack began, the [17:00] two women entered the safe room, but its [17:03] door could not be properly locked. NRA [17:05] stayed in contact with her family. As [17:08] gunfire moved closer and closer to the [17:10] house, in her final phone call with her [17:13] daughters, she whispered, "I'm dying." [17:16] At around 9:15, the terrorist entered [17:19] the house. NRA and Angie were murdered [17:21] together. Months later, Nerra's grandson [17:25] found a message the terrorist had left [17:27] behind in the house. "You will die and [17:30] you will not stay here." [17:33] The Alomi family lived in Kibuts near [17:36] Oz. On the morning of October 7th, [17:38] Bacher was inside the safe room with [17:41] their three children, 12-year-old Eton, [17:44] 10-year-old Yael, and their baby [17:46] daughter who was one year and 8 months [17:49] old. As the gunfire outside grew closer, [17:52] their father Ohad realized that [17:54] terrorist had entered the kibuts. He [17:57] told his family that he loved them and [17:59] stepped out of the safe room to try to [18:01] protect them. In one of his final [18:04] messages to friends, he wrote, "Our last [18:06] minutes." At around 10:00 a.m., [18:09] terrorist broke into the house and shot. [18:12] Bachva and the children could hear him [18:14] wounded outside the safe room. A short [18:17] time later, the terrorist returned, [18:19] opened the door, and ordered the family [18:21] to come with them to Gaza. Or was still [18:24] alive, sitting wounded near the safe [18:27] room, and told Bachva to do what they [18:29] said. The terrorist forced Bacha and the [18:32] three children outside at gunpoint. She [18:35] begged them to take her and let the [18:37] children go, but they refused. They put [18:40] the family on two motorcycles. Etan was [18:43] placed on one motorcycle while Bachva [18:46] and the two girls were put on the other. [18:48] They began driving towards Gaza. When [18:51] they were about 300 m from the border, [18:53] two Israeli tanks suddenly appeared in [18:56] the field. The terrorists scattered. The [18:59] motorcycle carrying Bachva and the girls [19:01] fell while the motorcycle carrying Eton [19:04] continued towards Gaza. When one of the [19:07] tanks passed nearby, Bach saw her chance [19:10] and ran barefoot and still in their [19:12] pajamas. She escaped through the fields, [19:15] carrying the baby in one arm and pulling [19:18] Yael with the other. For hours they hid [19:21] in the open fields, sometimes lying flat [19:24] on the ground and pretending to be dead [19:26] as terrorists passed nearby. Eventually, [19:29] Bachva and the girls made it back to the [19:32] kibuts and were rescued. Eton, however, [19:35] had been taken into Gaza alone. Ohad was [19:38] also kidnapped while badly wounded. [19:40] After 52 days in captivity, Eton was [19:43] released and reunited with his mother. [19:45] Ohad remained in Gaza. It was later [19:48] confirmed that he had been murdered in [19:50] captivity. His body was returned to [19:53] Israel 510 days after he was kidnapped. [19:58] The Kutz family lived in Kibutkar Aza [20:01] Aviv and Livnat and their three children [20:04] Rotim, Yonathan, and when the attack [20:07] began, the five entered their safe room. [20:10] At around 6:45 in the morning, [20:12] terrorists broke into the house and [20:14] murdered the entire family. Their bodies [20:17] were later found together on a bed in [20:19] the safe room with Aviv lying over his [20:22] wife and children, his arms wrapped [20:25] around them. [20:27] 9-year-old Emily Hand spent the night at [20:30] the home of her friend, 13-year-old Hila [20:33] Rotimosani in Kibutsbury. On the morning [20:36] of October 7th, when the siren began, [20:39] Emily Hila and Hila's mother, Rya, [20:43] entered the safe room. At first, they [20:45] tried to understand what was happening [20:47] through WhatsApp messages and report [20:49] from around the kibuts. As the hours [20:52] passed, the gunfire outside grew louder. [20:55] At 10:19, Rya wrote to a family member [20:58] that things were becoming frightening [21:00] and that terrorists were setting houses [21:03] on fire. Around noon, terrorists broke [21:06] into the house and forced their way into [21:09] the safe room. They threatened the three [21:11] with guns and knives. Just before her [21:14] phone was taken away, Rya managed to [21:16] send one final message to her brother. [21:19] They are kidnapping us. The terrorist [21:22] march Raya Hila and Emily through the [21:24] kibuts, forced them into a vehicle, and [21:27] took them into Gaza where they were held [21:29] under armed guard in a civilian home. [21:32] Back in Israel, their families had no [21:34] idea whether they were alive. Emily's [21:37] family was already griven another loss. [21:39] Nalis Hand, the former wife of Emily's [21:42] father, Thomas, who had helped raise [21:44] Emily as her own daughter, had been [21:46] murdered in Berry. Weeks later, the [21:49] families finally received confirmation [21:51] that Rya, Hila, and Emily had all been [21:54] kidnapped. After 50 days in captivity, [21:57] Emily and Hila were released. 2 days [22:00] before their release, the terrorist had [22:03] separated Hila from her mother, Rya, and [22:06] send Hila back without her. Rya remained [22:09] in captivity for another 4 days before [22:12] she too was released. Emily was finally [22:15] reunited with her father Thomas. Hila [22:18] was reunion with her family and 4 days [22:21] later with her mother. [22:24] The tragedy of the Tasa family unfolded [22:27] in two different places at almost the [22:30] same time. Gil and Sabin Taser were [22:33] separated and lived in neighboring homes [22:36] in Nativa Sara. Their eldest son, [22:38] 17-year-old or had gone fishing at Skim [22:42] Beach that morning. Terrorists were [22:44] arrived from the sea attacked the beach [22:47] and was murdered there. Meanwhile, Gil [22:50] was at home with his younger sons, [22:52] 12-year-old Coren and six-year-old Shai. [22:56] When terrorists reached their [22:57] neighborhood, Gil ran with the boys into [22:59] a small outside shelter. [23:05] The terrorist threw a grenade inside. [23:07] Gil threw himself towards the grenade, [23:10] absorbing most of the blast and sharp [23:12] nail and protecting his sons with his [23:15] body. Gil was killed. The two boys were [23:18] wounded. The terrorist then forced them [23:21] back into the house. [23:31] PLEASE [23:55] I [23:58] PLEASE, PLEASE [24:20] have a red look like [24:24] me. [24:30] At one point, while the wounded children [24:32] were inside, one of the terrorist [24:35] casually opened the refrigerator, took [24:37] out a bottle of Coke, and drank from it. [24:47] When the attackers finally left, Shai [24:49] and Corin ran from the house to their [24:52] mother's house next door. About an hour [24:54] and a half later, members of the [24:56] security team reached them. [24:59] Ail Shosani was 20 years old. She was in [25:02] her apartment in the Kibut's young [25:04] adults neighborhood. As terrorists [25:07] entered the area, stayed on the phone [25:10] with her family. Then the parents heard [25:12] the terrorist enter [25:14] heard gunfire through the phone. Of told [25:17] them that she had been shot in the arm [25:20] and asked her father to come to her. Her [25:34] father grabbed a weapon, got into the [25:36] car, and drove towards her while [25:38] terrorists repeatedly fire at him. He [25:41] was wounded. This is the footage from [25:43] his car. [26:08] He was unable to reach her. At 11:46, [26:11] Ofir sent her mother a final message. I [26:14] love you. After that, contact was lost. [26:17] Air was murdered inside her home. [26:22] The Alakima family lived in Kibut Nal.
