Neville Long Bottom's arc shows how
[00:02]
important it is to have a meaningful
[00:03]
purpose. Early in the series, when poor
[00:06]
Neville can't seem to do anything right,
[00:08]
it's because he's driven by fear. Fear
[00:11]
that he might not really be a wizard,
[00:12]
that he might not belong to Hogwarts or
[00:14]
Gryffindor, etrer,
[00:20]
escapes from prison. He starts to
[00:22]
realize in a way he never had before the
[00:24]
importance of being good at magic. It's
[00:26]
not about other people's opinions or
[00:28]
whether he'll be accepted. It's about
[00:30]
being able to defend the people he
[00:32]
loves. And supported by his friends in
[00:34]
Dumbledore's army, he becomes
[00:35]
unrecognizable, excelling at an insane
[00:38]
rate. He puts his newfound courage and
[00:40]
skill into practice in the climactic
[00:42]
scenes at the Ministry of Magic. But he
[00:44]
really becomes a hero in the last book.
[00:47]
At that point, the villains have taken
[00:48]
over Hogwarts, and Neville stands up for
[00:51]
the students who can't stand up for
[00:52]
themselves and leads a student
[00:54]
rebellion, passing on to others what
[00:56]
he's learned. Neville went from being
[00:58]
driven by fear to the honorable purpose
[01:00]
of defending his loved ones.
