[00:00]
So, the Cornell case has me thinking
[00:02]
about the movie The Accused with Jodie
[00:04]
Foster. It's not the same situation, but
[00:07]
for some reason it brought that to mind.
[00:10]
And I went back to remind myself of the
[00:14]
circumstances of that movie. Just as a
[00:17]
case law, as a woman, as uh
[00:22]
as substances involved in sexual
[00:25]
situations. And the scene is Jodie
[00:29]
Foster, her character is scantily clad
[00:35]
and inebriated and dancing provocatively
[00:38]
and her tank top is off. And the first
[00:42]
guy puts her on top of the pinball
[00:43]
machine and
[00:45]
rapes her.
[00:47]
And there are guys behind him cheering
[00:50]
on, screaming for the next guy, the
[00:53]
young guy, to get on top of her. It's
[00:56]
traumatic. It's based on a real case. I
[00:57]
think the movie was '88 and the real
[00:59]
case was in '83. And there were a bunch
[01:01]
of guys cheering, like the cheering male
[01:04]
mentality of that sort of, you know,
[01:07]
frat house bro culture. And then the
[01:11]
third guy gets on it. She screams, runs
[01:14]
out of there. There's a man in the room
[01:16]
who's watching and doesn't do anything.
[01:20]
He's the one who calls the police.
[01:23]
And the the three guys who were standing
[01:26]
cheering didn't rape her, didn't get on
[01:29]
top of her. They were just leading sort
[01:31]
of the the mob mentality. It was called
[01:34]
criminal solicitation what the others
[01:36]
were doing, inciting.
[01:38]
They go to jail. That's what the case
[01:41]
was about because it was outright rape
[01:43]
with the first three, but what about the
[01:45]
other guys that were cheering on? Now,
[01:49]
this is unrelated, it's not the same
[01:51]
circumstances, but it's sort of the
[01:53]
situation with when someone gets beaten
[01:56]
up on the street, what about the people
[01:59]
that are standing by? What about other
[02:01]
people that are cheering it on, getting
[02:03]
it going, inciting more? I know that's
[02:06]
not the same situation. I don't know
[02:08]
everything about the situation. It just
[02:11]
reminded me that there are many
[02:14]
different ways
[02:17]
that things can be problematic and many
[02:19]
different
[02:21]
people that can be problematic that
[02:23]
aren't so direct.
