Transcript [00:00] these previous comments that Mandani had [00:02] made about his desire to arrest the [00:05] prime minister of Israel should he step [00:07] foot in New York City. The US ambassador [00:11] to the UN um the Israeli ambassador to [00:13] the UN I should say Danny Denon had this [00:15] to say about Mayor Mdani's previous [00:18] promise. Watch. [00:19] >> I think he had already incided you know [00:22] by putting the ridiculous claim that he [00:26] can or he should arrest the prime [00:27] minister. if someone should be arrested [00:30] is Mayor Mandani for for inciding for [00:33] actually collaborating with the enemies [00:35] of the United States. You know, he sent [00:37] his officials to meet with the Iranian [00:38] ambassador here at the UN [00:41] and I hope that he he will realize that [00:43] he has responsibility. [00:46] >> So obviously Hi realizes he cannot [00:49] arrest Netanyahu as mayor of New York. [00:52] He's not going to send you that, [00:53] >> right? The New York Police Department [00:55] after him. And yet he's chose to make [00:57] those comments. Uh, is this all a [00:58] distraction here? Is there something [01:00] deeper that you're noticing? Hal, [01:02] >> look, Mandam Mandani's politics are [01:05] clear. He has radical politics. He's [01:07] someone who when he mentions 9/11, he [01:11] tries to equalize uh victims of America [01:14] with what happened in New York, kind of [01:16] a justification for some of the radical [01:18] ideology. You know, he he was elected to [01:21] provide security and safety for the [01:23] people of New York. 200 foreign [01:25] dignitaries are about to descend upon [01:27] Manhattan. He has a very serious [01:29] responsibility. Instead, for the past [01:31] several months, he's been grandstanding. [01:34] He threatened initially to arrest [01:35] Netanyahu. Then he said he wouldn't, but [01:38] he would understand if there are major [01:40] protests. Look, New York has [01:42] professionals in the police and other [01:43] agencies. They're going to do everything [01:45] to lower the temperature. The problem is [01:47] that the mayor is doing the opposite [01:50] with his inflammatory rhetoric. It's the [01:52] opposite of what New Yorkers need. He's [01:54] trying to pretend that he has a foreign [01:57] policy. He's the mayor. He wants to meet [01:59] with radical left politicians like Lula [02:01] Pedro Sanchez of Spain. It's time for [02:03] him to focus on what New Yorkers need, [02:05] which is safety, security, and [02:07] competence. [02:08] >> The the United Nations, although it's, [02:10] you know, a major event and like we [02:12] said, all these world leaders are coming [02:13] together in one spot and it causes so [02:16] much traffic, even more so in Manhattan [02:18] on the east side. Um, you know, the [02:21] president has expressed frustration with [02:24] this general assembly in the past. You [02:26] know, we we've really questioned what [02:28] they're actually able to achieve and now [02:31] we're learning, h that the UN General [02:33] Assembly uh the secretary general will [02:35] be leaving his position at the end of [02:37] the year after nearly a decade. Is there [02:40] any expectation as to who would take on [02:42] that role next? And really, what does [02:44] the future of the UN look like? [02:47] Well, the United Nations is facing a [02:50] very serious test. As you indicated, [02:52] there's a race now to succeed the [02:54] Secretary General. But I'd say that [02:55] there's a race to be relevant. Let's [02:57] keep in mind that we have crises around [03:00] the world. In Sudan, there are some 14 [03:02] million people displaced. Hundreds of [03:04] thousands have been killed, wounded. Uh [03:07] the UN is doing nothing to solve that [03:09] problem. When we look at the wars in the [03:11] Middle East, whether it's the war [03:12] launched by Hamas on October 7th or Iran [03:16] bombing its neighbors from Israel to the [03:18] Gulf, the United Nations is completely [03:20] irrelevant. If there's any movement, [03:22] whether it's, you know, Russia and [03:23] Ukraine, it's countries like the US, a [03:26] few others who get involved, but the UN [03:28] is really not relevant. So, there's [03:30] major tests facing the UN, the secretary [03:32] general. There's no clear indication of [03:34] of who will lead. The few people who on [03:37] the initial straw polls who've been [03:39] leading are not substantial uh [03:42] personalities who are wellknown and keep [03:44] in mind to win the spot you have to be [03:47] approved not only by the US but by [03:48] Russia and China. So to imagine that [03:50] you'll have someone with a spine is a [03:52] very hard uh uh expectation given the [03:56] regimes they have to appease. [03:58] >> Yeah, absolutely. [03:59] >> The Trump administration has said the UN [04:00] has lost its teeth. I mean it it what [04:03] it's sure it's a gathering these world [04:04] leaders but really I mean nothing really [04:06] happens [04:07] >> right. Yeah. You want [04:08] >> it's a catwalk for dictators next. [04:09] >> That's what I was going to say. You want [04:10] to talk about real king like so-called [04:12] kings the no kings protest that we see [04:14] against President Trump. Uh look at some [04:15] of the attendees at this big meeting [04:17] here. They're the ones who actually [04:19] stifle speech in their countries. Uh EJ [04:22] H thanks so much for joining us this [04:23] morning. We do appreciate it. [04:24] >> Thanks guys.
