Transcript [00:00] The Green Party has voted to define [00:03] Zionism as racism. I'm here in Brighton [00:06] where on Sunday the Greens voted by 1,26 [00:09] votes to 648 to define Jewish [00:11] self-determination as a form of racism, [00:14] becoming the first mainstream political [00:16] party to do so. A Jewish safeguarding [00:18] amendment intended to protect members of [00:20] the party from being targeted for [00:22] belonging to Zionist synagogues that [00:24] failed, leaving some fearing for their [00:26] religious freedom in the party. Some [00:28] Jewish members left the vote in tears, [00:30] telling me that they might have to leave [00:31] the party. Green MPs spoke out against [00:34] the motion and Ellie Challenge warned [00:36] that it risked alienating Jewish [00:38] communities and former leader Caroline [00:40] Lucas opposed it, saying that Zionism [00:42] means different things to different [00:43] people. But that wasn't enough. Zach [00:45] Palansky took no position and didn't [00:47] even vote on the motion. Now, outside [00:49] the hall after the vote, activists [00:51] chanted, "Zionists are not welcome [00:53] here." Party officials told me that the [00:55] motion concerns external policy, not [00:57] disciplinary processes, and won't affect [01:00] members rights. But Jewish Greens I've [01:02] spoken to, they feel betrayed. The [01:04] question now is, what will this mean for [01:07] their place in the party?
