THE BATTLE OVER ISRAEL IS ALSO A BATTLE OVER NARRATIVE.
Today on i24NEWS’ The Rundown i24NEWS , I discussed Macklemore, the controversial film *Naza*, and the much larger question of how entertainment, media, activism, and culture shape public understanding of Israel and the Jewish people.
These aren't isolated cultural controversies.
When celebrities, filmmakers, and activists command enormous audiences, the narratives they promote matter. Repetition can turn distortion into perceived fact. Propaganda can be packaged as art. Ideological activism can be presented as objective storytelling. And obsessive demonization of Israel and Zionism can cross the line from legitimate political criticism into anti-Jewish bigotry.
That is why those of us working in journalism, public diplomacy, advocacy, policy, and media cannot simply complain about misinformation after it spreads.
We have to compete in the arena of ideas.
That means knowing the facts, understanding how narratives are constructed, challenging misinformation and disinformation, telling better stories, and refusing to allow others to define Israel, Zionism, or the Jewish people without a response.
Free speech protects the right to speak. It does not guarantee freedom from criticism, accountability, or consequences.
