On Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year which begins tonight, I keep thinking about the sound of the great shofar.
The Hebrew prophets predicted a sound would go forth and that the scattered people of Israel would be gathered home. We are living in those days that the prophets longed to see. It is mind-boggling to watch the Jewish nation in the hundreds of thousands pouring into the Kotel for the high holidays.
As a follower of Jesus, I believe there is another dimension to the promise of the trumpet: the King is coming.
Yom Kippur reminds us to be ready for Him. We worship a truly high and holy God, the One for whom the seraphim cover their faces and their feet, crying Holy, Holy, Holy. Yom Kippur is about our name being written in His book of Life for all of time and eternity through our eternal King and His great mercy.
So on this Yom Kippur, I pray for the peace of Jerusalem, for the gathering of Israel and all of us to worship Him, and for the day when the great trumpet sounds, the King is coming!
May we all be found in awe before Him.
