This is Elizabeth Wilf, who I had the great pleasure of meeting recently. She exudes warmth, gratitude, intelligence and good humor, and is relentlessly focused on the future. She was born in Lvov, Poland —today Lviv, Ukraine, in 1932. In order to escape death at the hands of the Nazis, she and her family hid in attics, barns and more. Her father was forced to hide under a barn for two years, which led to kidney disease that he later died from when he finally arrived in America. Yet Elizabeth harbors no resentment. “My grandchildren are my revenge,” she told me. The time we live in demands we be outspoken about our Jewish identity and to remember, and share, our history of resilience. And so it was a great honor to participate in the @borrowedspotlight project, which highlights and amplifies the stories of Holocaust survivors like Elizabeth. 🙏🏼❤️ Thank you @brycethompson @detourgallery

This is so 2022. We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk. Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That’s twice as many people than the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews. I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that he identifies as a Nazi (which implies he wants to exterminate ALL marginalized communities including his own) or the fact that there is not sufficient OUTRAGE to remove and ban him from all social media at this point. Silence is complicity.

Jewish students across America are experiencing the worst attacks on their rights, dignity and safety in my lifetime. While some of the protests are peaceful, the atmosphere is one of pervasive harassment, intimidation, segregation, hate speech, threats & acts of real violence. If this were any other minority group the response would have been immediate outrage and action. And yet this antisemitism grows, spreading from middle school to high school to college campuses nationwide… Please show your support for your Jewish neighbors, friends and colleagues. I served on the Board of Directors for The Rape Foundation for almost 20 years, and have been an advocate for child and adult survivors of sexual violence for almost 30. I have met the most incredible and courageous people in my life through this work: Children, teens, men and women, who not only survived the most horrific conditions imaginable — but, with the right treatment and care, refused to let their trauma define them and went on to lead incredibly loving, healthy and productive lives. One crucial aspect I learned early on about the healing process, and for justice to be served by the criminal offenders, is that the survivor be BELIEVED: Regardless of age Regardless of race Regardless of gender Regardless of religion Regardless of sexual orientation Regardless of nationality Regardless of education Regardless of economic status There are incredible organizations and individuals that I count as allies in this work. Who for years have stood up and fought for survivors of rape and sexual assault, demanding justice — many of whom are survivors themselves. And yet… Why do so many REFUSE TO BELIEVE — despite all the evidence on camera and in testimony — the women, children and men brutally assaulted by terrorists on Oct. 7th? Where is their outrage? In the weeks and months that followed, it became clear that their activism, their advocacy, is conditional. They’ll fight like hell for ALL victims of sexual violence — unless they’re Jews. For many of them, denying it even happened is a convenient way of avoiding compassion and personal responsibility. Perhaps this article will finally make them realize they got it wrong, and come to terms with their unconscious bias. Because — as they know better than most — their refusal to believe the survivors has RE-TRAUMATIZED them, as well as their families, friends, and those of us who did believe them. These morally bankrupt Presidents of @Harvard, uofpenn and @mit testify before congress. Incapable of answering even the most direct “yes” or “no” questions, watch them duck and smirk at the unbridled anti-Semitism and calls for genocide on their campuses. Where is the outrage among students, faculty and alumni demanding their resignations, an official apology and enforcement of the codes of conduct? Silence is complicity.
